Compress PDF

Make a PDF smaller by choosing a compression level. Pages are re-rendered at a lower resolution and re-embedded, which cuts size sharply.

Open Compress PDF tool Runs in your browser - files are never uploaded

How to use it

  1. Add your PDF.
  2. Pick a compression level - extreme, recommended or less.
  3. Process and download the smaller PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How does it compress?

Each page is re-rendered as a JPEG at a lower resolution and quality, then rebuilt into a new PDF. This trades some quality for size.

Will text stay selectable?

No. Pages become images, so text is no longer selectable or searchable after compression.

What if the file is already small?

If compression would make it larger, FileKit keeps your original and tells you.

Confirm metadata removal

This edits document properties only; page content, links, annotations and forms are preserved where the PDF engine supports it. Some metadata structures (for example extended XMP written by other editors) may not be fully removed. Your original file is not changed — a separate cleaned PDF is created.
